Soluble silicates contribute to detergents as cleaning aids, processing aids, and corrosion inhibitors. As cleaning aids, soluble silicates provide alkalinity and promote soil suspension. VALFOR 100 Zeolite A, acting as a builder, removes water hardness ions and thereby allows the detergent to work more efficiently. As processing aids, liquid silicates serve as binders in spray drying and agglomeration processes.

Silicates usually work well with porous or semi-porous surfaces, where the silicate can partially penetrate the surface. Silicates can also bond metal and glass, but surfaces must be roughened or attacked chemically to make sure that a good physical bond can be formed.

Magnesium sulfate can be used to enhance performance and aesthetics of detergents and bar soaps. In detergents magnesium sulfate can be used to lower the cmc making more efficient use of the surfactant. In liquid detergents it can be used as a viscosity builder giving the product a richer appearance. In bar soaps magnesium sulfate can be used to reduce shrinking and cracking and also to minimize soap-dish melt down.
